New Headstand Identity

Morning
This morning we sent out a PDF file to a group of friends and associates that contained about 10 logo design directions. We have asked for feedback and comments from them. Once we get all those back, we will ask HBN Design to move forward on some final directions for our new identity.

We’re also taking a look at the office floor plan and doing some space planning thinking. We’re looking at creating more clusters of workgroup spaces, for small teams of people to use more effectively.

New Office Photos

Here are some photos of my new office space. The first image is of my “workstation” which I have just begun to get settled into, and personalized. As soon as I can clear out of my old office, I’ll have more personal things to put up here.

The second image is of the entrance to our office suite… basically our lobby. This is where you would wait if you came for a visit, while Jackie would let me know you were here. We’ve got some nice comfy chairs to sit in. If you are nice, Jackie might even offer to get you something to drink!

The third image is of the all important lunchroom and kitchen area! We’ve basically got anything you might need: a fully stocked refrigerator, Starbucks coffee (decaf and regular), tea, water, cereal, yogurt, munchies, candy, and more. There are tables and chairs, stuffed lounge chairs, a counter with stools, and oh yeah – a great view of downtown Chicago!

I look forward to having you visit!

Shoretel 210

Shoretel 210 VOIP telephoneI got my new replacement office phone extension today. It’s a high tech VOIP Shoretel 210, and brand spanking new. The Network Admin plugged it in and it reset itself on the IP assigned to me, at extension 450. It’s got voice mail, transfer function, Conferencing and Hold. Everything works. It even keeps time. Very cool.

New Biz Phone Number

We’re making progress! My new business direct phone number is: 312-768-7450. FYI – it is a VOIP phone system. I’m wondering who will be the first person to call me on that line?

Also, I had a good lunch today with Patrick Flanagan, Director of Product Management – SmartProducts, for ShopLocal, which is located here in downtown Chicago. Besides being incredibly knowledgeable about business related to Internet technology, he is a cancer survivor, and a phenomenal stringed instrument musician! I have the privilege of performing with Patrick at our church, as well as in a bluegrass band called Damascus Road. Loads of fun!

Thanks for sharing Chipotle with me today Patrick!

Added October 3, 2008: And the winner is… Corey Wilkinson! The first person to call me at my new office number! Thanks Corey!

New Biz Office

Today I set up a new office in downtown Chicago. I set up my desk, organized files, telephone, Internet access, iPod, finished paperwork, put up a picture of my wife, etc. Because of this change, I took the “EL – Green Line” into the city from Oak Park Avenue. When I last worked in the city, I used to take the Blue Line.

It has been 10-15 years since I commuted downtown to work, first at 742 N. Wells, then in Printers Row. It took me about 45 minutes from door to door today – not too bad.

I was able to have lunch with a friend named Mark Goeke who works downtown only a few blocks away. As I was going to meet him for lunch, I ran into another old friend, Lee Hoffner, who now works for RMG Connect located in the Mart. I am having lunch with another friend, Patrick Flanagan, tomorrow. It can feel like a very small world sometimes!

Here’s a picture of the building I am in, one of my architectural favorites, right on the curve of the Chicago River. It reminds me of a series of illustrations I did back in the 80′s for a group called “Friends of the Chicago River.” Here is a sketch I did for that study.
