In the recent issue of Christianity Today Magazine, there is an interesting quiz that helps one determine their “ministry age” by answering a series of 25 multiple choice questions. It was developed by Jimmy Long of InterVarsity Christian Fellowship to foster dialog between younger and older leaders about diverse views and to contribute to better understanding.
I just completed the quiz and my score was 39.
The possible meanings are listed as:
- Ages 25 – 41 Younger Leaders
- Ages 42 – 58 Pragmatic Leaders
- Ages 59 – 75 Traditional Leaders
Which makes me a “Younger Leader” even though I am 55 years old. If you know me, I guess that explains a lot!
What’s your score?
As a physical 46 year old and a spiritual 28 year old I answered the questions in a way to generale a 49 ministry age.
I did struggle with the reasoning behind some of the questions, I thought the possible answers were not mutually exclusive. For example,: G. The church is most effective when its vision is determined by
A team of diversely gifted leaders
A pastor with the gift of leadership
A board of deacons/elders
Can’t an elder board be made up of diversly gifted leaders? By definition I would say yes, I would expect an elder board to be diversly gifted leaders.
I think this is a great tool to get a group of church/ministry leaders talking about style and substance and meaning of the means of minsitry. There are some great questions there about what our values are and what drives us.
I am going to share this with a ministry team I am working with here.
Thanks for sharing!
